Magazine layouts for architecture reviews
By Haneul Park
Dense slides train reviewers to skim. We coach teams to use pull quotes for risks, sidebars for context, and narrow columns for narrative. The goal is legibility under fatigue, not aesthetics for its own sake.
This mirrors how we design cohort materials: wide imagery when intuition matters, tight prose when decisions matter. Surgenet Institute leans on magazine archetypes because distributed systems arguments are stories with data, not bullet lists alone.
If you are preparing for an internal critique, try printing in grayscale first. If the risk does not pop without color, the slide is lying. Our Service Boundary Cartography studio devotes a night to print reviews for exactly that reason.
